Pip's Choice Prjoect: Kara Part 2

For my Choice Project, I decided to shoot portraits. To edit these photos, I changed the contrast, and added some gaussian blurs. I also used the clone stamp tool, and the spot healing brush to retouch her face. In some of the photos I used the dodge tool to brighten her eyes.

Harris Shutter Project

(All of these are going to be re-done.)

This is my first attempt at shooting and editing the Harris Shutter Effect. The effect has a standard editing technique to achieve the colors and the movement, so all I did to these pictures was the standard technique - along with some slight brightness/contrast afterwards. I'm a really big fan of this effect, and I plan on shooting more of it because I really like the style. My first attempt turned out the way they were supposed to, and now that I know how to do this - when I re-shoot I'm going to focus more in getting better pictures. More complex/artsy pictures that show off good composition, instead of normal, easy-to-take motion pictures.

Social Commentary

This project required TONS of editing. So how did I start it all off? Well I had first duplicated the layer, then I desaturated the second layer (which was the copy of the first). I next used curves and made it so it was extremely contrasted black and white and I used the burn and dodge tool to perfect this look. The final (and longest) step was to create the words and add a layer mask to erase the words from the areas that I didn't want covered. ENJOY!

Social Commentary

People used to listen to live music and now, you can just listen from your iPod or watch a concert on TV.

People used to do work by hand and now, you can just imput the numbers into a calculator and it can do all the work for you.

We used to write letters to friends, family, etc (in cursive) and now, we just send a text, IM or message through a social networking site (and cursive is no longer taught).

We used to use the environment around us to tell time by the sun. We used to be able to survive without the use of technology by using nature - moss and shadows to tell the time and direction. Without technology, you'd be completely lost.

Technology is seriously replacing people. Looking at all the above examples are hardly scraping the surface. People used to go out and fall in love and now, they have websites that  tell us who to love. We even have machines making machines. It's affecting jobs and economy but not always in a good way. Everyone needs to learn how to rely a little less on technology to tell them when to wake up, to tell them when to go to work, to do their work for them and so on.

Some pictures of this project took more editing than others. For the top pictures, I upped the contrast a lot. I also turned up or down the brightness depending on how I took the picture. I then made the pictures black and white.

For the bottom pictures, I upped the contrast and played with the levels to make the photograph seem a little more intense, maybe even give it a bit more of an intimidating mood. I also accomplished this by playing with the hue and saturation.

so this is my addvertisng project. I shot some in the studio and some out. I used the patch tool to get rid of dents in the can for the studio shot. I also used the selection tool to select the redbull logo, then I used the cut tool to drag it on to my photos in the left or right corners. I also used a layer mask and added some text too.

Ian's Social Commentary (Poverty)

Poverty: the state or condition of having little or no money, goods, or means of support; condition of being poor.

For the most part, for this shoot I used modles to portray saddness in poverty. I used the crop tool so the places look more abandoned. For every picture i changed the brightness and contrast to help the focus. Also for two of these pictures posted I used the burn or dodge , like for Dewi's hand and face when she was holding the lack of money. I had either desaturated the picture or gave it a vignette to make the picture more dark or depressing.
