Kayla Bass Social Commentary 3 - 2 - 1 Studio 1

Things Learned:
1. David LaChapelle had a book of photos he described as America today but most people treated it with scorn.
2. In 1866 early photographers used their work as a way to inform the upper class about the lives of the poor.
3. How The Other Half Lives by Jacob Riis showed the overcrowded New York Slums.

Inspiring:
1. How LaChapelle had a crushed car in a photo to symbolize how the subject has a life like a car crash that you can't take your eyes off of.
2. The boldness of photographers to show issues in the world to people who are oblivious.

My Idea:
How our materialistic lifestyle makes us selfish and oblivious to people who need help around us.
-I can't think of a specific word to describe this.
